Whether it’s getting started sharing your group’s stories and aims through blogging, forming a community around a Facebook group, or reaching out and engaging new supporters and service users through Twitter, our volunteer will be on-hand with suggestions on how to effectively use social media to promote an important cause.

If you’ve never heard of Ignite Liverpool then it kind of goes like this -

Enlighten Us but make it quick – is the motto.

The events are open, simple and short sessions where presenters share their personal and professional passions, using 20 slides that auto-advance every 15 seconds.

Presenters submit their ideas for an Ignite session and we give the go ahead to start preparing your power point presentation. Yep we said powerpoint presentation. You get 20 slides that are 15 seconds each – That’s 4 slides a minute so 4 x 5 = 20slides and that’s all you get – 5 minutes.

They really want to encourage as many people as possible to come forward and present on a subject that they are passionate about.

So Be a Rock Star for 5 minutes! – quick fire talks on any subject!

Join the Ignite Liverpool speakers club who have given talks on subjects as wide and as various as Victorian Cannibals, Batman’s successes, OCD, Beer prices, Bell Ringing, Saving Cinemas, Cathedrals, Flags and Wimpy Restaurants

This is one of Liverpool’s most unusual events and you should be part of it!

We have been given the contract after a successful pitching process last month and the first Jelly we ran one we ran was last week on the 6th September.

I don’t think that many people noticed the difference between us running it and Open Labs as the free coffee still flowed and the WiFi was tasted a good as ever. One of the things that we did add was a display screen where we could show attenders the kinds of creative digital events that are currently taking place in Liverpool.

This can be using social media, technology, live drawing, knitting, cross-stitching, talking, singing, film-making, photography or absolutely anything you feel you’d like to explore as part of a group and would be willing to hold a small workshop on.

OggCamp is an exciting and ever growing free culture unconference organised by our very own Dan Lynch (hats off dan to get it here) and many others and this year, its at the Art and Design Academy in Liverpool! Mingle with Raspberry Pi, Canonical, Mozilla, The Ubuntu Podcast, Linux Outlaws and Google and browse all sorts of Linux and open source goodies.

A big part of Oggcamp is going to be the Open Hardware Jam where some of the most interesting open projects out there will be presented with an unmissable opportunity to take part and find out more.

Featuring presentations and workshops from RaspberryPi, the RepRap community, Nanode, 8bit computing withFignition, DoES Liverpool, 3D Printing, Open Textiles, Crazy Golf Hacking and a wikihouse build run by local LJMU Architecture graduates and architecture practice Point Five

Oggcamp highlights include a remote contribution by Stephen Fry, yes that Stephen Fry! Also Alan Donohue of Hack To The Future, Ross Gardler of OSS Watch and the Apache Software Foundation and Lindsey Annison leading on a crowdfunded project to bring fibre optic Broadband to the Rural North.

Artists Ross Dalziel and Amanda Steggell will also be talking about currently.no an international coastal research programme between Liverpool and Oslo with artists and collectives Hillevi Munthe, Elisabeth Weihe, Owl Project, Protei, Juha van ‘t Zelfde of shippr.org, Jana Winderen, PointFive and Open Source Swan Pedalo.

To the uninitiated Social Media Cafe is a fun and informative evening where we discuss Social Media and digital practices, we normally have three presentations and then a chance to ask questions.

This one is focusing on audio platforms and we have three great speakers lined up with some extras jumping in and giving short talks about audio projects and platforms.

How Why DIY

How? Why? DIY! has incorporated as a Community Interest Company to promote the benefits of technology to the residents Liverpool and network creative technologists in the area.

How Why DIY CIC – a bit of a mouthful now with the CIC on the end but as we have been doing a great deal of work and plan to do more it was only fair to incorporate. We have incorporated to or aim to.

• run events that promote community focus for creative technologists and offer workshops to the wider community.

The Community will benefit from educational, networking and cultural events whose aim is to promote the understanding of and highlight the benefits of technology. We will do this by running  the How Why DIY network and subsequently events that explore issues relating to digital technology and access to new skills.

This will benefit the community by giving them access to a network of like minded technologists to access knowledge sharing, skills development and creative technology skills and equipment. Events will raise awareness of contemporary issues and encourage engagement with digital technologies by providing  pathways for further exploration and learning (both formal and informal).

The establishment of new groups will stimulate the development of progressive ideas – so join up and progress those ideas.
